Efficient Aircore & Grassroots Exploration

Before major resource assets can be defined, grassroots exploration campaigns require a fast, cost-effective method to test widespread geologies and locate anomalies beneath the weathered topsoil. In the early stages of a program, drilling deep, expensive holes isn’t practical—you need to cover large grids rapidly to identify where the real potential lies.

Our Aircore drilling service is the ideal solution for this high-speed, early-stage testing. Specifically engineered to drill through soft, weathered rock, clay, and unconsolidated dirt, Aircore utilizes a specialized hollow-core bit to slice cleanly through the upper layers. It provides your geological team with highly accurate, uncontaminated samples from the saprolite and bedrock boundary, giving you the definitive data needed to prioritize future targets without draining your exploration budget.

Our Approach To

Aircore & Grassroots Exploration

At B&T Drilling, our approach to grassroots exploration is centered on rapid mobilization and high-speed daily meter counts. We understand that early-stage budgets are tight and timelines are strict, which is why our equipment is optimized for absolute efficiency in the field.

We utilize highly maneuverable, light-footprint rigs that can traverse rugged, remote terrain with minimal environmental impact. Our experienced, self-sufficient crews are masters of regional logistics, allowing us to set up grids, execute high-volume sampling, and relocate across vast leases seamlessly. We treat your exploration schedule with the utmost priority, ensuring that every meter drilled is backed by strict sample control and elite mechanical reliability.

How We Work

The Process

01

Grid Layout & Grid Mobilization

Working closely with your geological coordinates, our agile, self-sufficient exploration teams mobilize directly along your planned grid lines, preparing the site footprints with a focus on strict environmental protection.

02

Hollow-Core Advancement

Drilling begins using a specialized, sharp-toothed hollow-core bit. Unlike standard solid bits that smash the entire rock profile into fine dust, the Aircore bit cuts a clean, solid core profile out of the soft, weathered ground formations.

03

Pneumatic Core Recovery

Using heavy-duty pneumatic down-hole hammers, we seamlessly advance through the tough granite layers. We continuously monitor the geological formations and water inflows, drilling until we reach a robust, reliable, and sustainable water pocket.

04

Cyclonic Splitting & Logging

The uncompromised geological material enters our high-efficiency surface cyclone. It is split into clean, metered samples ready for laboratory assaying, allowing your geologists to rapidly log the regolith profile and map out anomalies.

Essential Questions Answered

Aircore is a rapid, cost-effective method designed specifically for drilling through soft, weathered upper geologies and clays down to solid bedrock. Reverse Circulation (RC) is a much heavier, more powerful system used to hammer through solid, unweathered hard rock at greater depths.

Aircore drilling is highly efficient from surface level down until the bit strikes solid, unweathered basement rock (refusal). Depending on the thickness of the local WA saprolite and clay profiles, our rigs comfortably achieve targets up to the natural refusal boundary.

Aircore bits are designed to cut through soft, weathered ground. If the rig hits a hard rock band or solid granite stringer before reaching the main target depth, it will hit “refusal.” For programs with highly mixed hard-and-soft strata, we can discuss configuring a multi-purpose rig layout.

No. One of the greatest advantages of our Aircore fleet is its compact, highly maneuverable design. Our rigs feature a significantly lighter footprint than massive production rigs, allowing our crews to navigate tight regional tracks and wilderness grids with minimal environmental impact and simplified rehabilitation requirements.
